In final preparation for New Year’s Eve, the iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball is lit and sent up the 130-foot pole atop One Times Square. br . br Amy Huntingdon, Philips Lighting America President , event co-organizers Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance, and Jeff Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment, flipped the giant Philips switch to initiate the spectacular, state-of-the-art lighting effects powered by 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs and embellished by the Ball’s 2,688 Waterford Crystals. br br The ascent of the Ball high above one million revelers in Times Square at 6pm on New Year's Eve will signal the start of a 6 hour live show and is accompanied by a cheer so loud it can be heard throughout midtown Manhattan. br br The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment are the co-organizers of Times Square New Year’s Eve.
