Mr Takahashi (and Other Falling Secrets) CAIRNS SEASON MAR 31- APR 8 2017

Darwin 1942 – WWII: A town collapses under the threat of invasion as bombshells drop on Northern Australia. Mothers and daughters, sisters, friends and entire cultures are torn apart by the secrets that start to fall. Is Mr Takahashi to blame?br br This is a play about the bombing of northern Australia and is presented as part of the 75th anniversary of that event. Japan unleashed a wave of attacks on the north, including Cairns and Townsville with particularly devastating effects on Darwin, with three times as many bombs as were dropped on Pearl Harbour. Mr Takahashi examines the home front at this time, focussing upon the lives of multicultural and Indigenous women who contributed to the war effort, making, in some cases, the ultimate sacrifice.br br This historical play is produced by JUTE Theatre Company in association with Darwin partners, Corrugated Iron Youth Arts. With a cast of 5 professional actors the project also engages young actors in each centre to fill the ensemble and smaller speaking roles. This is a wonderful opportunity for young emerging actors to take part in a professional production.br br br br Cast & Crewbr Director: Suellen Maunderbr Designer: Simona Cosentinibr Designer: Simone Tesorieribr Lighting Designer: Beck Adamsbr ComposerSound Designer: Netanela Mizrahibr Stage Manager: Andi Eganbr Production Manager: Angus Robsonbr br Featuringbr Chenoa Deemalbr Merrilee Millsbr Natalie Taylorbr Haylee Wrightbr Kate Wyvillbr br EnsembleChorus includesbr Rachel Davisbr Maleea Hegartybr El Ibobr Tia Lelliottbr Azizah Pertiwibr Emma Pricebr br Dates & Venuebr February 15 – February 25 2017: Brown’s Mart Theatre, Darwin NTbr February 2017: Katherine NTbr March 30 – April 8 2017: JUTE Theatre, Centre of Contemporary Arts Cairns, 96 Abbott Street, Cairnsbr br Cairns Pricesbr Adult $30br Concession $25br Groups of 4 or more $28 eachbr Opening Night Adult $40 (Red Carpet Event with Champagne & Canapés)br Opening Night Concession $35 (Red Carpet Event with Champagne & Canapés)br Opening Night Groups of 4 or more $38 (Red Carpet Event with Champagne & Canapés)br The play runs for approximately 95 minutes with one 20 minute interval.
