Mandalay Hill is a 240 meter (790 ft) hill located just a short drive from the city centre. Myanmar's second largest city takes its name from the hill, which is known for its abundance of pagodas and monasteries. It has been a major pilgrimage site for Burmese Buddhists for nearly two centuries. At the top of the hill is the Sutaungpyei (literally the wish-fulfilling) Pagoda. A panoramic view of Mandalay from the top makes it worthwhile to attempt a climb up its staircase. Coconuts made the climb at 4AM to catch the sunrise. As you can see it was well worth the trek.
