What is the Procedure for a Labiaplasty? Aviva Preminger, MD

A labiaplasty is a procedure that's designed to address extra tissue of the labia minora and patients have a lot of concerns about how this is done and what's involved in the recovery and how painful it is . It's actually a pretty quick procedure it takes about an hour to do. We excise or cut out the extra tissue and then repair the skin itself and it can even be done in the right patient under local anesthesia which is just an injection. A lot of my patients prefer to be asleep for it but you don't have to be. The procedure takes about an hour and the recovery the worst of the recovery is about a week and it's not so much because the procedure is so painful it's mostly due to swelling in the first few days that's really well controlled with Motrin and icing. It's a very effective procedure, the recovery is relatively quick and the patients who have the procedure done are generally very satisfied because they thought about doing the procedure for a long time and have kind of been afraid to go through with it and they're very happy that they finally had it done.
