BLM Protesters Halt Minneapolis Pride Parade

pThe Twin Cities Pride parade was halteda for about 20 minutes on Sunday, June 25, by a group of more than 100 Black Lives Matter protesters in Minneapolis. The protesters carried a sign stating “Justice for Philando” and “#NoJusticeNoPride.”ppThe group read aloud a list of demands to parade organizers before performing a “die-in” for several minutes, according to a news reporta. The group then started its own march about two blocks ahead of the parade.ppThe protest comes about a week after a jury acquitted a former St. Anthony, Minnesota, police officer in the shooting death of Philando Castile.a The shooting and now the acquittal sparked protests in the Twin Cities.ppTwin Cities Pride organizers originally had askeda Minneapolis police to refrain from marching in this year’s parade because of the tensions over the acquittal.
