South African Parliament Erupts in Song and Chants Ahead of No Confidence Vote

pPoliticians chanted and sang in the South African parliament on August 8 ahead of a vote of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma.ppMembers of the ruling ANC party sang in supporta of the president before members of the socialist Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), wearing red overalls, entered the chamber singing, which prompted shouts and jeers from the other side of the house.ppThis video shows the EFF’s song, lead by the party leader, Julius Malemaa.ppEarlier, opponents of Zuma marcheda to the parliament building in advance of the vote. A heavy police presence was reporteda in Cape Town, with pro-Zuma marches also taking place.
