Free line the bluegill in deeper water, and use a bobber to suspend a bluegill over vegetation or other obstacles.\rbr\rbrEffective water temps - 50 degrees to 80+ degrees\rbrIdeal conditions - Any as long as theres decent water clarity (15 inches or more)\rbrHookset - When using a bait holder style hook, be sure to reel any excess slack and use a strong vertical to slightly angled hookset to ensure good penetration into the bass jaw. \rbrWhen using a circle hook, be sure to reel in any excess slack and use a horizontal sweeping hookset to stick the bass in the corner of its mouth.\rbr\rbrRetrieval - I normally cast the bait out to a good looking target and wait anywhere from 2-5 minutes before retrieving it for a new cast. If there is a stumpfield or a big dock youre trying to cover, you can pitch the bluegill, let it swim around for 30 seconds, then pull it up and repeat.
