His crew includes the singer Céu, the composer and producer Beto Villares and the cooperative group Instituto, which includes Rica Amabis, his brother. Last year he made the album “Memórias LusoAfricanas,” on which he constructed moody backing tracks for singers including Céu. (The elegantly creepy sound world of Portishead seems to be a fixed part of his imagination.) This year he offers “Trabalhos Carnivoros” (“Carnivorous Works”), available free at br It’s about him, not others; it’s more of a singer-songwriter record, less a producer’s sandbox. Mr. Amabis sings in a quiet, relaxed and confiding voice, a bit like the young Caetano Veloso’s, on tracks rich in mood and harmony. They’re poetic songs with imaginative shifts, featuring close-miked vocals and spooky reverbed guitars.
