Tamil IYENGAR - Nine Yard/ Madisar -- How to drape a 9 Yard saree

Detailed instructions on draping an Iyengar Madisar\rbr\rbrCheck out my tutorial on how to wear Iyengar madisar using a 6 yard saree\rbr\rbr\rbrCheck out my blog:\rbr\rbr\rbr\rbrHow to use the restroom while wearing the saree:\rbr\rbrYou need to pick the bottom jarigai of the saree that covers your pant like formation in front and tuck that jarigai at your waist, exposing the pyjamas like formation. If the portion of kacham between your legs is tight and riding high near your thighs, you need to loosen that up a bit. It ll be a little loose if you are thin. Untying the kacham knot, might help loosening it, if need be. Then all you need to do is, balance your weight on your right leg and bend your left knee upwards towards your chest, and try to slide your left foot through that kacham portion between your legs. I hope I am making sense. That way, the portion of cloth between your legs will now be on your left and both your legs together. \rbrNow all you need to do, is pick and bunch up all the saree around your waist, finish your business and then slide your left foot back though the loop. Remove the tuck and voila! I hope my explanation was clear.\rbr\rbr\rbrSteps:\rbrBring saree from behind and tie a knot on the right side of your hip.\rbr\rbrLift the bottom part of the saree and bring it around, behind you and tuck it in.\rbr\rbrTake a short length of the remaining saree and tuck in at the left of the waist.\rbr\rbrMake a couple of short pleates and tuck in near the right side of the waist. \rbr\rbrBring the saree around and keep your feet apart at shoulders width .\rbr\rbrGuide the saree to the front by keeping it tight around the waist.\rbr\rbrTake a generous amount of the cloth from the top part of the saree and tuck it around near the right side of your waist.\rbr\rbrGather the rest of the saree and bring it through from between your legs.\rbr\rbrHold tight the portion of saree near your feet using your toes.\rbr\rbrGather the rest of the saree from beind and rest it on your arm.\rbr\rbrPull the saree from behind as much as you can without pulling the material held under your toes.\rbr\rbrRemove the tuck you made earlier and the short pleates.\rbr\rbrUntie the knot.\rbr\rbrBring the kacham resting on your arm to front.\rbr\rbrHolding the two ends of the knot, bring the kacham from outside to the inside of the right end of the knot.\rbr\rbrTie the knot tightly this time.\rbr\rbrPut the short pleates back in place and instead of the tucking in the cloth like we previously did, we will tie it into a knot to the pleates or the cloth around the waist.\rbr\rbrAdjust the kacham and bring it to the back.\rbr\rbrLoosen the lower end of the cloth that goes between your legs and tighten upper end that goes near your thighs by pulling the kacham from behind.\rbr\rbrRelease the cloth from your toes and find the correct side of the saree using the jarigai so that the correct side faces outside.\rbr\rbrTrace it back to the kocham and twist the saree to allow the correct side of the saree to face outside.\rbr\rbrPull on the both ends to minimize the area the twisted portion occupies.\rbr\rbrGrab the upper end of the saree and bring a small portion to the left of your back and tuck in it at the waist.\rbr\rbrUsing the upper end of the saree, guide the saree to the right and bring it to the front\rbr\rbrMake a couple of short pleates near your right waist and tuck it in.\rbr\rbrKeep your feet wide apart, bring the saree around the front to your left and repeat the pleating process around your left waist.\rbr\rbrKeeping your feet apart, guide the saree from behind you to the front.\rbr\rbrGather the rest of the saree and drape it over your left shoulder with the rest of the saree falling behind.\rbr\rbrIf the saree is tight around your legs and feet, adjust by pulling till you feel comfortable.\rbr\rbrFind the correct side of the pallu and bring it to the front. \rbr\rbrFold the pallu in half and bring it around to your left waist and tuck it in. Make final adjustments.
