On Saturday, the Ministry of Defense said, Taliban militants killed 18 soldiers in a pre-dawn assault on a military base in Afghanistan's Farah province. A Defense Ministry statement said "a large number" of insurgents were killed during the confrontation, and two Afghan soldiers were injured. In a statement to journalists, a Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack. This is the deadliest in a string of attacks that shaken Afghanistan in recent months against the Taliban.
