Idris Elba to Star in New Netflix Comedy Series Elba will play the titular character in ‘Turn Up Charlie’, a series created by TV producer Gary Reich and himself. Netflix has ordered eight episodes of the half-hour show, which will begin production in May. The series focuses on Charlie, who is a DJ and bachelor who ends up becoming a nanny for his famous best friend’s daughter. Elba is currently working on a second comedy show called In The Long Run, a semi-autobiographical series based on his family and childhood. In addition to acting, Elba also recently became engaged to Sabrina Dhowre and made his directorial debut with Yardie, a British crime drama that aired at Sundance.
