Jazeera: Al-Qaida claims Algeria attacks br br The Associated PressPublished: August 22, 2008 br br CAIRO, Egypt: The pan-Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera has broadcast an audio claim of responsibility by the North African branch of Al-Qaida for recent attacks in Algeria that killed 55 people. br br A voice purportedly belonging to spokesman Salah Abu Mohammed says the group carried out Tuesday's attack on a police academy as well an attack Wednesday on a Canadian engineering firm. br br The two attacks killed a total of 55 people, according to Algerian authorities. br br There was no way to authenticate Friday's message but in the past militant groups have delivered responsibility claims via the news channel.
