Four new lava fissures opened in the Leilani Estates subdivision in Pahoa, Hawaii, on Friday, May 4, all before a magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked the area around the erupting Kilauea volcano.

Three of the new fissures opened by residential streets, and two stacked lava as deep as three meters across the street. The fourth fissure opened in the forest in Leilani Estates. Cracks opened on the streets before and after the earthquake. Leilani Estates and nearby Lanipuna Estates are under mandatory evacuation orders. Credit: Honolulu Civil Beat via Storyful
