A 10-year-old schoolgirl had her life saved by a routine eye testbr which showed a tumour the size of a GOLF BALL pressing against herbr brain. Lauren Uncles went to her local opticians to get somebr prescription sunglasses for a family holiday in Cornwall on August 21.br But during her eye exam optometrist David Strachan spotted swellingbr behind her optic nerve. Little Lauren was then rushed from her localbr Specsavers branch in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs., to nearby Queen'sbr Hospital for further tests. They revealed she had a rare cranialbr fibroma - a cancer which grows inside the eye - which can be deadly ifbr left untreated and cause complete blindness within days. The next daybr she was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital where she underwent abr major operation to remove the tumour by draining 40ml of fluid frombr her brain.
