Small Streams of Lava Continue to Flow Into Ocean Off Hawaii

br pStreams of lava from the Kilauea volcano’s lower East Rift Zone in Hawaii continued to flow into the Pacific Ocean on August 9, blowing white laze plumes inland, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.pp“Although lava output from fissure 8 remains low, the ocean entry was still active during HVO’s helicopter overflight on August 9,” the USGS said. “Numerous small streams of lava were oozing into the ocean near Ahalanui, creating weak plumes of laze.”ppLaze is a corrosive seawater plume containing hydrochloric acid and fine volcanic particles that can irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs.
