Microplastic found in table salt, IIT Bombay salt not safe to eat

Think twice before you sprinkle some salt in your food - that innocent looking salt, without which no meal can be prepared could be toxic. A stidy by IIT - Bombay has found that most table salts sold in India are likely to contain microplastics from polluted sea water. The institute has also found 626 microplastic particles -- of which 63 comprised plastic fragments and 37 plastic fibres -- in samples of popular salt brands in India. Researchers said the study has not named individuals brands as the microplastic was found as a result of background sea pollution.
