Chicago Police Officer Charged With 2nd Degree Murder For 2014 Shooting Of Teen

According to a report by Reuters, on Friday, Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder for the 2014 shooting of teen Laquan McDonald. The forty-year-old Van Dyke was also convicted of 16 counts of aggravated battery, one count for each of the shots fired at seventeen-year-old McDonald who was armed with a knife. Reuters reports that McDonald faces up to 20 years in prison for the second-degree murder conviction, in addition to, up to 30 years for each of the 16 counts of aggravated battery.
