Taiwan president resigns as ruling party boss after election defeat

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen resigned as chairman of the ruling pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party on Saturday night after it suffered a major electoral setback, losing two of the most important posts in mayoral elections in Kaohsiung and Taichung.
