Ed Sheeran to Face Trial Over Claim He Copied Marvin Gaye Sheeran has been accused of copying Gaye's song, "Let's Get It On," with his hit, "Thinking Out Loud." Ed Townsend co-wrote br Gaye's 1973 single. His heir, Kathryn Townsend Griffin, br sued Sheeran in June. Sheeran’s request to throw out the lawsuit was denied by U.S. District Judge br Louis Stanton on Jan. 3. Judge Louis Stanton, via statement Structured Asset Sales is also suing Sheeran for $100 million because they claim to own parts of “Let’s Get It On.” “Thinking Out Loud” was released in 2014 and won two Grammys for song of the year and br best pop solo performance.
