The Samajwadi Party and Congress have reached an agreement which will lead to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee being nominated as the UPA's presidential candidate. The Samajwadi Party has effectively scuttled West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's plans in the presidential elections.
