Beto O’Rourke Unveils Plan to Improve Care For Veterans

Beto O’Rourke Unveils Planbr to Improve Care For Veterans On June 24, presidential contenderbr Beto O’Rourke proposed a four-partbr plan to improve veteran care. The first part would be the endingbr of “forever wars” and the creationbr of trust funds for all future wars. These funds would be generatedbr from a new "war tax" which wouldbr be paid by non-military taxpayers. The second part of O’Rourke’s planbr would be to improve the current Veteransbr Affairs (VA) health care system. This includes filling over 45,000br vacant positions currently at the VA. The third part would be to ensure allbr veterans are provided with equal treatmentbr regardless of sex, race or sexual orientation. O’Rourke plans to enforce this by requiringbr the VA to cover the full spectrum of women’sbr health care, including reproductive health, as well as offer care that is inclusive ofbr all troops, regardless of their sexualbr orientations and gender identities. Finally, O’Rourke would expand transitionbr assistance programs to help veteransbr successfully return to civilian life. This includes offering “reverse boot camps”br as well as directing government resourcesbr to prevent veteran homelessness.
