The film is produced by Manoj Menon under the banner ReelsMagic and will be distributed by LJ Films. Thira is announced to be the first installment in a trilogy of thriller films. The film marks the debut of Vineeth Sreenivasan's younger brother Dhyan Sreenivasan and also the return of evergreen actress Shobana to Malayalam cinema after almost a decade. The film was shot from Hyderabad, Madras, Belgaum and Goa. It is set to be released on 17 November 2013.
