First Trailer Released for br Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun: Maverick' The film is sequel to the 1986 br smash-hit film that launched the actor's br career in Hollywood. In the trailer, Cruises' Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is still br a gung-ho pilot, who doesn't seem interested in br advancing his Air Force career. He is depicted as still being a Captain in the service despite his lengthy career. In 'Maverick,' Cruise is joined by newcomers Ed Harris and Jon Hamm. As well as 'Whiplash' star Miles Teller, who plays br the son of Anthony Edwards' Goose br from the first movie. 'Maverick' was helmed by br Joseph Kosinski, who directed br Cruise in the sci-fi flick 'Oblivion.' 'Top Gun: Maverick' will fly onto the big screen next summer on June 26.
