Sesame Allergies Might br Be More Widespread br Than Once Thought.br A study published in br "JAMA Open" finds that sesame br allergies could be more than twice as br prevalent as previous studies suggested.br The study estimates as br many as .49 of Americans could br be allergic over the previous .2 br thought to have been affected.br The estimate equates br to about 1.6 million Americans.br The study also found that br more people go to the emergency br room because of the allergy br than previously noted.br Sesame seeds are used br widely in foods ranging br from sushi to granola.br The FDA is currently considering br whether or not to require a br sesame seed allergen br warning on food packaging.br Currently, eight other br foods including shellfish, br peanuts and wheat require br the FDA warning. .
