Gangwon-do Province Governor calls for U.S. efforts in resuming Mt. Geumgang tours

The governor of South Korea's Gangwon-do Province, Choi Moon-soon, has called for international efforts, especially from the U.S., to resume South Korean tours to the North's Mount Geumgang.br At a press conference today, Choi said he visited Washington last week and delivered a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and also met with government officials and lawmakers.br His province, he said, has faced economic difficulties since the tours came to a halt in 2008.br He also stressed that if they resume they'll help break through the current diplomatic stalemate.br Choi also proposed forming a tourism zone that connects the eastern mountains of South and North Korea, as well as developing Goseong-gun county as a UN Peace city, as a county divided in half by the inter-Korean border.
