But now, a new study at Drexel Universityshows that houseplants aren’t as goodat cleaning the air as we believed. The new study puts plants in thecontext of real-world buildings. They looked at whether plants purifiedair quickly enough to have a noticeable effect, and, unfortunately, they don’t. Theoretically, there might be ways to increasea plant’s air-cleaning effectiveness like usingfans around them or even genetic modification. But they still contribute many otherbenefits, so it’s still a good idea to share yourhome with as many leafy roommates as possible.
