This Day in History: br First Canned Beer Goes on Sale January 24, 1935 After two years of research, br the American Can Company br developed a successful can of beer. The Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company br became the first brewer to sell br canned beer in the United States. 2,000 cans of Krueger’s Finest Beer br and Krueger’s Cream Ale were br delivered to Krueger drinkersbr in Richmond, Virginia. Within three months, br over 80 percent of distributors br were handling Krueger’s canned beer. The big three national brewers — br Anheuser-Busch, Pabst and Schlitz — br soon followed suit. By the end of 1935, br over 200 million cans br had been produced and sold.
