Balbir Singh Dosanjh, better known as Balbir Singh Senior, became the hero of independent India's first major sporting success the 1948 London Olympics men's hockey gold. Seventy-two years from that day, one of the greatest players the game ever saw has left for his heavenly abode, aged 95.
