WHO "인종차별 반대 운동 지지…시위대, 마스크 써달라"

The World Health Organization is urging nations to press on with efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19,... stressing the pandemic is worsening globally despite the fact that conditions in certain countries are improving.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
The chief of the WHO has urged protesters around the world to wear face masks,... adding that he supports the global movement against racism.
"WHO fully supports equality and the global movement against racism. We reject discrimination of all kinds. We encourage all those protesting around the world to do so safely. As much as possible, keep at least one meter from others. Clean your hands, cover your cough and wear a mask if you attend a protest. We remind all people to stay home if you're sick and contact a health care provider."
During a news conference Monday,... Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also called on countries to stay vigilant.
He stressed it's not the time to take their collective foot off the pedal,... explaining that over 136-thousand cases were reported worldwide on Sunday,... the most in a single day so far.
He added that a majority of Sunday's cases were concentrated in 10 countries,... mostly in the Americas and South Asia.
Noting that many countries had identified asymptomatic cases in the process of contact tracing,... a senior WHO official explained they need to focus on patients with symptoms.
"It still appears to be rare that an asymptomatic individual actually transmits onward. What we really want to be focused on is following the symptomatic cases. If we followed all of the symptomatic cases because we know that this is a respiratory pathogen. It passes from an individual through infectious droplets."
The WHO stressed that finding, isolating, testing and caring for every case is crucial,... adding countries need to continue to trace and quarantine every contact,... and never drop their guard.
