This Day in History: br Terrorist Gunman br Attacks Pulse Nightclub June 12, 2016 49 people were killed in br the attack when 29-year-old br Omar Mateen entered the br club with an AR-15-type assault rifle. Most of the casualties br of the attack were br members of the Orlando, FL, br LGBTQ community. During the siege br on the club, Mateen br made a 911 call in which he br pledged his allegiance to ISIS. At about 5am, br police stormed the club br and shot and killed Mateen. Evidence shows that his br original target may have br been a Disney complex. In 2018, Mateen's wife was found br not guilty of obstructing justice for br making contradictory br statements to the FBI.
