China strongly condemned the UK after it announced plans to extend residency rights for British National (Overseas) passport holders in Hong Kong.  London offered about 3 million Hongkongers a path to citizenship after Beijing imposed a national security law on the former British colony.  China reserves the right to take countermeasures against Britain, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian at a press conference on July 2, 2020.
