South Korea's health authorities are stressing the need to stay home during the upcoming Chuseok holiday as Korea continues to grapple with the spread of the COVID-19.
They warn that family gatherings could pose new challenges in controlling the virus.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
South Korea's quarantine authorities are calling for tougher quarantine measures for the six-day Chuseok holiday,... warning that the yearly mass migration of people around the country could lead to a resurgence of COVID-19.
"We ask the public to minimize travel plans and stay home during the holiday."
This comes as it is deemed impossible to completely control the spread of the virus,... especially with a high proportion of asymptomatic patients lately.
"The government reviewed designating September 30th to October 4th as a special quarantine period and putting in place quarantine measures equivalent to Level 2 Social Distancing across the entire country."
Health authorities explained that train tickets sales will be limited with only window seats being sold,... and face mask wearing will be mandatory inside trains.
Physical distancing will also be enforced at expressway rest areas nationwide.
They also asked the public to refrain from visiting their ancestral graves in person,... but gather on-line to express love for their ancestors.
Individuals are also asked to avoid visiting long-term care centers to prevent the virus spreading to facilities that house senior citizens.
The government also pledged intensified quarantine for venues that are frequented by people including department stores, grocery stores and traditional markets.
It will also disclose a list of screening clinics that are open throughout the Chuseok holidays.
