Massive mammoth skeletons unearthed at Mexican airport site

멕시코 신공항 건설부지서 '매머드 화석' 대거 발견br br A new commercial airport site in Mexico has emerged as one of the world's biggest mammoth graveyards.br More than one hundred skeletons of the now-extinct relative of elephants have been unearthed across nearly two hundred excavation sites in the area.br Archaeologists speculate the animal herds residing in the area around 24-thousand years ago died when they got trapped in the muddy banks of a lake.br "The animals ventured too far, got trapped and couldn't get their legs out of the muck, then for the animals a slow death. At the time, the animals were eaten by carnivores and by man.''br The new airport, once it's completed, is expected to house a museum-style exhibit showcasing the skeletons of mammoths and other ancient remains.
