People in Ireland and India, ancestral homes of US president-elect Joe Biden and vice-president-elect Kamala Harris, respectively, were in a mood to celebrate after the pair were projected as winners in the 2020 US presidential election. Harris’ maternal ancestors hail from Thulasendrapuram, a village in southern India, where residents set off firecrackers and marched carrying her portrait to show their happiness that a woman of Indian descent is heading to the White House.
