A Russia-brokered peace deal signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on November 10, 2020, ended six weeks of fighting over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Thousands of people died and tens of thousands more were forced from their homes because of the short, intense conflict. Armenia agreed to cede swathes of the disputed region to Azerbaijan.
