Massachusetts to End Sale ofbr New Gas-Powered Cars by 2035.br Massachusetts has announced that it will requirebr all new car sales to be electric by 2035. .br The state detailed the plan and morebr in its “2050 Decarbonization Roadmap,”br which was released last week.br The report says that in order for Massachusettsbr to “achieve Net Zero,” on-road vehicles that use fossil fuelbr must be “all but completely eliminated” by 2050. .br It goes on to specifically name “high efficiencybr battery-electric” and “zero-emission” vehiclesbr as the most viable replacement. .br Given the cost and scarcity of low- orbr zero-carbon drop-in replacement fuelsbr and the current market and growing availabilitybr of high efficiency battery-electric and otherbr zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) alternatives,br this likely means reaching near completebr electrification of the light-duty fleet, via 2040 Decarbonization Roadmap.br State experts say that light-duty passenger vehiclesbr specifically account for 27 percent of local emissions.br Roughly 5 million light-duty passengerbr cars and trucks generate aboutbr 60 of transportation emissions, via 2040 Decarbonization Roadmap.br Massachusetts aims to have br 30 percent of all trucks and bus sales bebr zero-emission by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050. .br The state’s plan isn’t finalized yet and they are asking the public to providebr feedback until February 22. .
