CDC Issues Mandatory Mask Mandate forbr Planes and All Public Transportation.br The Centers for Disease Controlbr and Prevention has made itbr mandatory for people to wearbr face masks on planes and allbr forms of public transportation.br The order also makes mask-wearingbr mandatory at all transportation hubs. .br That includes bus and ferry terminals, train andbr subway stations, airports and seaports.br The order went into effect late Monday night,br one minute before midnight.br People must wear masks that completelybr cover both the mouth and nose while awaiting,br boarding, disembarking, or traveling onbr airplanes, ships, ferries, trains, subways,br buses, taxis, and ride-shares as they arebr traveling into, within, or out of thebr United States and U.S. territories, CDC, via statement .br Children under age 2 arebr an exception to the rule,br as well as people whobr cannot safely wear masksbr due to a disability. .br Face masks can be temporarily removedbr to eat, drink, take medication or communicatebr with someone who is hearing impaired.br The CDC anticipates “widespread voluntarybr compliance” and “support” from federal agencies.br However, the CDC can enforce the orderbr through criminal penalties if necessary.
