Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Tim Merlier said: “I'm very happy with this victory in my first sprint at a Grand Tour. I knew it was important to be well-positioned at the last roundabout. When I came out of it I only thought of going faster and faster afterwards. I went from far out, at about 250 metres. I still had enough to finish it off. My preparation at altitude has been good. I was confident before tackling the Giro.”
The Maglia Rosa, Filippo Ganna, said: “I did the time bonus sprint just to take the bonification away from the others, thinking of the coming days if Egan (Bernal) or Pavel (Sivakov) are fighting for the Maglia Rosa. I saw Remco (Evenepoel) was trying to go for it too. But Gianni (Moscon) and myself did a good job. I enjoyed hearing the crowd of Piedmont yelling my name today. We know tomorrow is a perfect stage for Peter Sagan.”

Il vincitore di tappa, Tim Merlier, subito dopo l'arrivo, ha dichiarato: "Sono molto contento di questa vittoria, era la mia prima volata in un grande giro. Sapevo che era importante essere ben posizionati all'ultima rotatoria. Sul rettilineo finale ho pensato solo ad andare a tutta. Sono partito da lontano, circa ai meno 250 metri dal traguardo. Mi sentivo bene e ho avuto energie a sufficienza per conquistare questo successo. La mia preparazione in altura è stata buona ed ero fiducioso sui risultati che avrei potuto ottenere".
La Maglia Rosa, Filippo Ganna, subito dopo l'arrivo, ha dichiarato: "Ho voluto fare lo sprint intermedio per togliere l'abbuono ad altri corridori, pensando ai prossimi giorni quando Egan (Bernal) o Pavel (Sivakov) si batteranno per la Maglia Rosa. Ho visto che anche Remco (Evenepoel) stava cercando di prendere l'abbuono. Gianni (Moscon) ed io abbiamo fatto un buon lavoro. Mi è piaciuto sentire la folla piemontese gridare il mio nome lungo la strada. Domani sembra una tappa perfetta per Peter Sagan".
