The final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published in Assam on July 30. An estimated 30-50 lakh people could be stripped off their Indian citizenship. Though these people will get multiple chances to challenge their status, millions of people in the Northeastern state are in a state of confusion and anxiety. What will happen once they have exhausted all their options? There are fears of violence in the state which has a history of divisions along religious and linguistic lines.
