While 2021 was Australia's coolest year since 2012, it remains around half a degree warmer than the 1961–1990 average.

2021 recorded slightly above average rainfall, including the wettest November on record.

Above average rainfall was observed for much of eastern Victoria, New South Wales, southern Queensland, western parts of Western Australia, and large parts of the far northern tropics, compared to the distribution of rainfall across all years since 1900.
