All is calm in the southern Ukrainian port city of Berdyansk. Yet, the signs of Russian occupation are palpable. Russian troops patrol the streets and tanks are parked around the city. But unlike most of the country, there are no sounds of active warfare. That’s because Ukrainian troops left the city quickly after Russian forces took control of it, just four days after the invasion began on February 24, 2022.
