the existing rules on pesticides are weak and
have not been applied consistently across the bloc.
Last month, Pesticide Action Network Europe
released a new study on the contamination
of fruit and vegetables produced in the EU.
The study found that use of the most
toxic pesticides has significantly
increased over the past ten years.
According to the commission,
EU funds will help to facilitate the transition
to alternative pesticides for five years.
