Duck – Laid 1972 (Australia, Hard/Blues/Brass Rock)

The Sydney-based studio group Duck was the brainchild of musician and producer G. Wayne Thomas. The core of the group was the musicians of the Hunger club team, considered one of the best Sydney bands of the time. They were joined by noted jazz pianist Bob Gebert (worked with many bands including Tully), bassist Teddy Toi (ex-Aztecs, Fanny Adams, Wild Cherries) and percussionist Larry Duryea (ex-Tamam Shud ”). Jon English (ex- “Sebastian Hardie”) performed vocals on several songs. The band traveled to Melbourne, where they recorded their only album, Laid, at Bill Armstrong's Studios. At the end of 1972, the vocalist Bobbi Marchini was hospitalized with appendicitis, and upon leaving the hospital, the group was already disbanded. In 1976, Marchini left the music scene and left Australia, to return again in 2004 for a reunion with his first band, Southern Comfort. Jon English played the role of Judas Iscariot for several years in the Australian version of the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" before embarking on a successful solo and acting career. Larry Duryea worked with Stevie Wright, moved to the USA in the 80s and died in California at the end of 2003. Bobby Gebert is still one of the pillars of the Australian jazz scene and performs regularly in Sydney.br br Tracks:br 01. Maybe I'm Amazed - 3:28br 02. Southern Man - 2:24br 03.
