Asia’s longest river, the Yangtze, lowest level in 150 years as China battles heatwaves, drought

Record low water levels are being recorded in China’s Yangtze River and its two biggest freshwater lakes as parts of the country endure historic heatwaves and drought. Hankou, part of the central city of Wuhan and a key location for monitoring Asia’s largest river, reported a water level drop to 17.54 metres on August 13, 2022.
