Indira Gandhi has been one of the most prominent figures to have dominated Indian politics, post-independence. Elected as the first woman Prime Minister of India, she served three consecutive terms as PM and a fourth term too until her assassination on 31 October 1984. She is the only female Prime Minister of India till date.
