Letter to His Father (Spoken Poem with Music)

Partial Lyrics:br br Letter to His Fatherbr br Well, little František had some troublebr He was really living in a bubblebr He wanted to make it betterbr So he sat down to write a letterbr He thought of who to write tobr He thought of everyone he knewbr A lot of people hate their dadbr It is not exactly a new fadbr br It was the best letter never sentbr With his life he certainly was not contentbr He composed a masterpiece he’d have thrown outbr But František needed it off his chest no doubtbr br František started listing his complaintsbr And he didn’t show any restraintsbr His dad had kept him from his pearlbr The one whose hair was always in curlsbr Though she never got his wanted permissionbr Because in his eyes she was just a musicianbr Aimlessly banging away at a drumbr Or picking up everything she could strumbr I promise it isn’t the money I’m looking forbr She would at all times on her knees implorebr br It was the best letter never sentbr With his life he certainly was not contentbr He composed a masterpiece he’d have thrown outbr But František needed it off his chest no doubtbr br František wrote to his dad he hates his 9 to 5br Is this what everybody has to do to survivebr Punch in a few numbers, figures and safety instructionsbr Or looking at my health insurance deductions br I want to be a traveler, a hunter, or a drifterbr Not worrying whether my problems are mounting swifterbr Or maybe I can stay in and write at all hoursbr Not experiencing any noise but the showersbr Please don’t make me go in tomorrow I can’t take itbr They can’t fire me because I just quitbr br It was the best letter never sentbr With his life he certainly was not contentbr He composed a masterpiece he’d have thrown outbr But František needed it off his chest no doubtbr br František’s father seemed to bow down eight times a daybr And read his book and then constantly be compelled to praybr He’d visit the sacred places and touch all the stonesbr He was always concerned about what would happen to his bonesbr František didn’t believe and for this he was disapprovedbr The chanting outside the door wouldn’t make him movedbr Still his dad put him a tie in the sacred weekbr And made sure above all his personal appearance was sleekbr To František’s complaints his dad only shushedbr Placing his fingers on his lips in a move of disgustbr br It was the best letter never sentbr With his life he certainly was not contentbr He composed a masterpiece he’d have thrown outbr But František needed it off his chest no doubtbr br František’s father brought into him such a terrorbr That every time the door slammed he feared his errorbr What had he done wrong today or had he failedbr To accomplish the tasks that had been left detailedbr On a list with a time stamped for completionbr Each ounce of his energy was marked off for depletionbr His flying rage would make him cower in the cornerbr As if this would justify the actions of the scornerbr The letter served as a protest of the furybr He was trembling from the radiation like Madam Curie br br It was the best letter never sentbr With his life he certainly was not content
