Webb Telescope Sheds Light on the Early Universe

Webb Telescope , Sheds Light , on the Early Universe.br Gizmodo reports that NASA's Webb br Space Telescope has taken aim at br the barred spiral galaxy EGS23205. .br The distant galaxy will reportedly increase br our understanding of the young universe and br how the first stars and galaxies took form.br Previously, NASA's Hubble Telescope also captured images br of the galaxy. However, Webb's sharper images reveal br a stellar bar reaching out from the galactic center. .br The bars hardly visible in Hubble data br just popped out in the JWST image, showing br the tremendous power of JWST to see br the underlying structure in galaxies, Shardha Jogee, astronomer at UT Austin br and co-author of the research, via Gizmodo.br A stellar bar is a massive galactic br cross-section of countless stars, which br plays a crucial role in galactic evolution. .br They help to push gas toward the galaxy's br center, fueling star formation and feeding br the central supermassive black hole. .br The Webb Telescope has been targeting some of br the earliest galaxies ever seen, which appear as they br were several hundred million years after the Big Bang.br The images captured of EGS23205 br are snapshots of the galaxy br about 11 billion years ago. .br In October, NASA's new $10 billion observatory captured images of the Pillars of Creation, massive plumes of dust and gas found in the Eagle Nebula.br The same month, Webb produced an image br of merging galaxies approximately br 270 million light-years away from Earth.
