When I Went Down To The Darkness (Spoken Poem with Music)

Partial Lyrics:br br When I Went Down to the Darknessbr br When I went down to the darkness and hissingbr It was because she said her sister was missingbr She had been hanging out with some who were suspiciousbr I didn’t like the crowd that surrounded herbr I’m judging the story trying to find if it’s fictitiousbr br I didn’t trust the look in her eyesbr But I didn’t know enough to chastisebr So I artificially bumped up the pricebr To see if she was completely seriousbr No one pulling a scam would make such a sacrificebr br She must have seen me lick my lipsbr When she pulled out the bills from their clipsbr She broke my train of thought of what I would buybr By asking if she could trust me to find herbr Only after I assured her would she say goodbyebr br When I went down to the darkness and the streetbr I didn’t see any men out in the heatbr The women cops mugged in my directionbr I waved at them and tipped my hatbr They acted like they didn’t understand the deflectionbr br A burnout was spinning a glass bottlebr While the drivers fought to hit the throttlebr A fight broke out in front of the pathbr Of the club where they sold the town’s junkbr The broken people outside showed the aftermathbr br She dragged me into the darkness of the underground shootbr I realized what was the problem’s rootbr When I confronted the producer she saidbr It’s not our problem if people move herebr Only not to make it anywhere but someone’s bedbr br The corrupt politicians didn’t like the shape of my nosebr But that is just always how this goesbr I got a few that said cease and desistbr That’s how you know you’ve got ‘em in a cornerbr That’s when the women cops brought down the fistbr br When I went down to the darkness of the jailbr They told me I would certainly failbr They hit me with all their hoses and wiresbr Tied the noose around my neck andbr Threatened me with what the gas chamber requiresbr br I tried to give my side of the storybr We don’t like that one in our territorybr They told me and was denied a defenderbr As they laughed at all my rightsbr They said by the end I’d be in a blenderbr br I went to the cinema when I was let outbr I was rubbing all the bruises starting to sproutbr The two goons in front turned back to lookbr At me as the previews were startingbr I started to write them in my black bookbr br But they both got up and pointed their handsbr As if they were guns giving scansbr I stayed in my seat to see the sisterbr And her film on the big screenbr The audio came in as on a transistorbr br The picture flickered and shookbr The plot was missing but I was to overlookbr As I stared intently at the visible frownbr That the star wore so wearingly on her facebr As she began to drop for all her gownbr br I was too disgusted to stay for the endingbr In the world all faces were blendingbr My hands were in my pocket without a cluebr Of who or what to do for my next movebr The interest on the junk was starting to accruebr br I saw a girl huddled up in a coatbr And I realized I’d seen her promotebr The film of the girl in the previewsbr I knew I’d have to question herbr But she wouldn’t budge without any boozebr br
