Lucy Powell has demanded the implementation of a windfall tax on energy companies after British Gas owner Centrica revealed that earnings at its retail supplier business soared by nearly 900%.
The shadow culture secretary said that “we do now need this proper windfall tax on these windfall profits so that this money can be recirculated to help ordinary families and businesses who have been struggling for the past year or two with these huge hikes in their energy costs.” Report by Covellm.
