The Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam have rejected China's map, claiming sovereignty over the South China Sea, calling China to respect international law and a previous arbitration ruling. China's map includes a U-shaped line covering 90 of the sea, which overlaps with the exclusive economic zones of several countries. Malaysia has filed a diplomatic protest over the map. China claims that the line is based on historical claims but it is unclear if it represents any new territorial claims.
